Trojans Open Conference Play with Loss to Lincoln Memorial

ANDERSON, S.C. – Following an extended 10-day layoff due to persistent wet weather throughout the Upstate, Anderson and Lincoln Memorial were finally able to get their South Atlantic Conference slate underway on Sunday night, with the Railsplitters taking advantage of five unearned runs in the top of the first inning and shutting out the Trojans, 9-0, in the series opener at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson saw its three-game win streak halted and slipped to 6-4 overall and 0-1 in league play, while Lincoln Memorial (7-6, 1-0 SAC), the reigning conference tournament champions snapped a three-game skid.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Trojans were limited to six hits on the night – all singles – with senior Jackson Strange and sophomore Will O'Brien each notching two apiece.

Senior Will Gee (1-2) suffered the hard-luck loss after allowing five unearned runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings of work on the mound. The right-hander struck out five batters and walked three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Railsplitters capitalized on a pair of AU miscues to strike for five runs with two outs in the top of the first inning and the Trojans were unable to get their offense untracked.

Lincoln Memorial added four runs in the top of the ninth to set the final score.

NOTABLES

Jackson Strange extended his hitting streak to seven games.

UP NEXT
The Trojans and Railsplitters will close out the three-game conference series with a doubleheader on Monday. First-pitch at Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
