Late-Inning Heroics Propel Trojans Past Alabama Huntsville

ANDERSON, S.C. – Senior Brandon Odachowski's two-run, two-out walk-off double in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted Anderson to an improbable, 10-9, come-from-behind win over Alabama Huntsville, Sunday afternoon at a cold, damp Memorial Stadium.

After being limited to just one hit and shut out through seven innings, the Trojans eventually rallied to battle back from an eight-run deficit to claim their second straight win over the Chargers.

Anderson improved to 5-3 with the nonconference victory, while Alabama Huntsville fell to 2-4 on the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Odachowski also reached on an error in the decisive eighth inning, while junior Joseph Strange went 3-for-4 on the afternoon, with three singles and also reached on a walk. Junior Dillon Carpenter added two singles and a pair of walks, while scoring two runs, including the game-winner in the 11th inning. Centerfielder Cody Adams drove in a pair of runs, with sophomore Dalton Shaw notching a single, two walks and two runs scored, including crossing the plate in front of Carpenter with the tying run in the Trojans' final at-bat.

Senior Christian Hendrix, the seventh Trojan hurler to see action, improved to 2-0 on the season by tossing the 11th inning. The left-handed reliever allowed one run on two hits, while walking one batter and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
While the Trojan batters were being stymied through the first seven innings, Alabama Huntsville scored three times in both the top of the first inning and the fifth frame, while adding two more runs in its' half of the sixth inning to build an 8-0 cushion.

But the Trojan bats came alive in the bottom of the eighth, as AU sent 13 batters to the plate and capitalized on a pair of UAH errors, while banging out four singles and a double en route to scoring seven times and climbing within one run.

After right-hander Christian Carpenter held the Chargers scoreless in the top of the ninth, Jackson Strange led off the bottom of the frame with a single back up the middle. Dillon Carpenter followed with another single up the middle that moved Strange to third and he crossed the plate with the tying run on Chandler Castleberry's sacrifice fly to left field.

Following a scoreless 10th inning, the Chargers regained the lead with a solo run and set up AU's final-inning heroics. Shaw led off by beating out an infield single to the left side and moved into scoring position on Dillon Carpenter's one-out walk. Two batters later, Odachowski laced a pitch over the center fielder's head and both Shaw and Carpenter raced across the plate before the ball got back to the infield.

STAT OF THE DAY
Alabama Huntsville stranded 17 runners on the afternoon.
