Trojans Split Doubleheader with Alabama Huntsville

ANDERSON, S.C. – After dropping the opening contest of a doubleheader, 7-1, to Alabama Huntsville, the Anderson baseball team bounced back to split the nonconference twin bill by pounding out 10 hits, including four doubles, to defeat the Chargers, 6-3, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson (4-3) snapped a three-game skid with the win in the nightcap, while Alabama Huntsville fell to 2-3 on the season.

The Trojans managed just two hits in the opener – both doubles and both in the bottom of the first inning as Jackson Strange and Chandler Castleberry notched the extra base hits.

Will Gee (1-1) absorbed the loss after tossing 6 1/3 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits, while striking out five batters and walking just two.

Game #2
Anderson 6, Alabama Huntsville 3
Junior Dillon Carpenter went 2-for-4 in the nightcap, with a double and his first triple of the season, while also scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Sophomore Dalton Shaw was also 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, while Castleberry added a run-scoring double and a run-scoring single in four at-bats. Brandon Odachowski posted a third-inning double and catcher Tyler Berry reached on a pair of walks.

Matthew Stanley captured his second win of the early season by scattering six hits and allowing three runs, while fanning a season-high eight batters in five innings of work on the mound. The left-hander walked just three batters. Sophomore Cameron Hall tossed the sixth inning and did not allow a hit, while walking one batter. Junior Christian Carpenter earned his third save of the campaign by working a scoreless seventh inning and surrendering one walk, while striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The Trojans got on the scoreboard first, as Strange ripped a one-out double to left in the bottom of the opening inning and Castleberry followed two batters later by also pulling a double into left field and plating Strange with the game's first run.

But the Trojan batters were held to four walks over the next eight innings, while UAH scored a pair of runs in the third inning, a solo run in the sixth, two more in the seventh and posted solo runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to claim the six-run win.

Game 2
After UAH posted a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Trojans batted around and plated three runs before the Chargers recorded an out.

Sophomore Trevor Weisner and Logan Jackson each posted RBI-singles in the bottom of the third inning to boost AU's lead to 5-2 and the two teams traded solo runs in the fourth inning to close out the scoring.

• UAH leads the overall series, which began just last season, 3-1.

The Trojans and Chargers are scheduled to wrap up the three-game series with a single contest, Sunday afternoon. First-pitch at Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
