Jackson Strange Earns Academic All-District Honors

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University baseball standout Jackson Strange has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team, as announced Thursday morning.

The teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Strange drew a starting nod in all 54 games this season, while helping lead the Trojans to their most wins in a season since the 2003 edition of Trojan baseball claimed an NCAA D-II era school-record 31 victories. The Greenville, S.C., native led the team and ranked sixth in the South Atlantic Conference with 19 doubles, while standing third on the team with a .310 batting average and 65 hits on the season. Strange finished the season with 43 RBI and a .538 slugging percentage.

He recorded 16 multiple-hit games and posted a season-high 14-game hitting streak during the month of April, while capping the season by earning All-Tournament accolades at the 2018 Pilot/Flying J SAC Baseball Championship.

A rising senior, Strange is a five-time member of the Anderson University Dean's List and carries a 3.91 GPA, while majoring in Mathematics/Actuarial Science.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada and recognize honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.

The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams.
