Trojans Earn Road Win over Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Junior Jackson Strange, senior William Thomas and redshirt freshman Chandler Castleberry combined to drive in ten runs, as the Anderson baseball team opened a four-game road swing by outscoring Lander, 14-10, in a nonconference contest, Tuesday night at Dolny Stadium.

Anderson improved to 16-23 on the season with its fifth win in seven games, while Lander fell to 12-25 with its fifth consecutive loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Strange was 4-for-5 on the night, with a two-run homer, a double and a pair of run-scoring singles, while driving in four runs. Senior Tyler Miller was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, with junior Brandon Odachowski adding a double and a single. Sophomore Dillon Carpenter was 2-for-6, with a pair of singles and Castleberry posted his team-leading 13th home run of the season and drove in three runs, while drawing two walks. Senior William Thomas also recorded three RBI with a fifth-inning triple.

Sophomore right-hander Christian Carpenter evened his record at 3-3 on the season, while allowing a run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief. He struck out four and walked one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans scored two runs in the top of the first inning and again in the top of the third to claim a 4-1 lead before the Bearcats answered to take a 5-4 edge with a four-run fourth inning.

But AU countered by sending 14 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth and erupted for 10 runs, highlighted by Thomas' bases-loaded triple, to take a lead it would not surrender.

Lander added two runs in the sixth and three more in their final at-bat to set the final score.
