Trojans Upend Southern Wesleyan in Slugfest

CENTRAL, S.C. – While pounding out a season-high 22 hits and posting its second-highest run total of the season, the Anderson baseball team wrapped up a stretch of 11 games in as many days by knocking off Southern Wesleyan, 18-7, in nonconference play, Wednesday night at C. Keith Connor Field.

Anderson improved to 13-22 on the season and has won three of its last five decisions, while defeating the Warriors for the second time this season. Southern Wesleyan fell to 14-24 after suffering its second straight loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior Will Thomas was 2-for-2, while freshman Dalton Shaw was 3-for-4 on the night, with a walk and scored a run. Senior Tyler Miller was 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored. Sophomore Dillon Carpenter was also 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored. Freshman Will O'Brien added a pair of hits and two RBI, with redshirt freshman Chandler Castleberry posting a pair of hits and driving in four runs. Freshman Will Lindsey posted two hits in four at-bats, with Jackson Strange and Tyler Berry each notching two hits apiece. Strange also drove in three runs, including one with his first triple of the season.

Junior left-hander Christian Hendrix (1-1) captured his first win of the season with three innings of relief, while allowing just one single and fanning a pair of batters and not issuing a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans capitalized on three hits, including a leadoff double by Thomas to score three runs in the top of the first inning and sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning, while erupting for eight runs in the second frame to build an 11-0 advantage.

Southern Wesleyan countered by trimming AU's lead nearly in half with five runs in the bottom of the second and climbed within 11-6 with as solo run in the third inning.

AU got the run back in the top of the sixth and added two more in the seventh, while building a 15-6 cushion with another run in the eighth inning. SWU scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, with the Trojans capping the night with a three-run ninth inning after batting around.
