Indians Claim Series Finale over Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team closed out the month of March with an 11-3 setback to Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 11-21 overall and 6-12 in the conference, while Catawba improved to 19-17 and 13-5.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior Tyler Miller notched three of the Trojans' six hits on the afternoon, with two singles and a run-scoring double. Freshman Will O'Brien added a ninth-inning single and was hit by a pitch, with sophomore Dillon Carpenter reaching base on a single and a walk.

Junior Will Gee (2-5) took the loss after surrendering six runs on nine hits in three innings of work on the mound. The right-hander walked three and struck out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Catawba scored multiple runs in four of the first five innings, while building an 11-0 advantage after 4 ½ innings. The Trojans avoided the shutout when Joseph Strange opened the bottom of the fifth inning with his second walk of the day and freshman Dalton Shaw followed two batters later with a walk. Miller came through with a double to left that plated Strange and Carpenter pulled a run-scoring single through the right side that brought Shaw home.

After a scoreless seventh and eighth innings, Shaw reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Chandler Castleberry's single to left to round out the scoring.

UP NEXT
Anderson wraps up the five-game homestand by playing host to Young Harris on Monday, then opens a brief two-game road swing, Tuesday at North Georgia. First-pitch versus the Mountain Lions in the Electric City is set for 6 p.m.
