Trojans Lose Slugfest at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Despite banging out 13 hits, including four home runs, the Anderson University baseball team opened a nine-game road swing with a 19-12 nonconference setback at Emmanuel, Thursday afternoon at Tom Carey Field.

Anderson slipped to 8-13 on the season with just its second loss in six decisions, while Emmanuel improved to 9-13 with its third win in four outings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Redshirt freshman Chandler Castleberry homered twice and drove in three runs, while freshman Tyler Berry reached base four times with a walk, two singles and a double. Sophomore Matthew Overton notched a three-run homer in the first inning, with senior William Thomas adding a double and a two-run single. Fellow senior Tyler Miller posted his second home run in three games.

Freshman left-hander Peyton Blake (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on four hits in an inning of work on the mound. He struck out one and walked four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans scored four runs in the top of the first inning, with Overton's three-run shot doing most of the damage, but the Lions countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and added six more in the second frame to take a lead they would not relinquish.

AU posted a pair of runs in the third inning, while Emmanuel scored five in the third and built its lead to 14-6 with a solo run in the fourth inning.

The Trojans scored two in the fifth inning and Castleberry homered in the sixth inning for AU's ninth run. The Waxhaw, N.C., native also homered in the eighth as part of a three-run inning for AU.

The four home runs were a season-high for the Trojans.

Anderson will get back on the diamond Friday in the opening contest of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series at Carson-Newman. The Trojans and Eagles will square off at 2 p.m. tomorrow and are scheduled to wrap up the set with a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
