Baseball to Open Season with Three-Game Nonconference Weekend

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team is set to open the 2018 season by playing host to Conference Carolinas-foe King University in a three-game series this weekend at Memorial Stadium. First-pitch for Friday's opening game is set for 3 p.m., with the series slated to wrap up with a Saturday afternoon twinbill starting at 1 p.m.

Admission to Trojan baseball games is $5 - students, faculty and staff, along with members of the Trojan Club are admitted free of charge.

THE TROJANS
Anderson, which was picked to finish 10th in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, opens a five-game homestand this weekend. The Trojans are looking for their third consecutive season-opening win after knocking off North Greenville, 7-3, to open the 2017 slate.

SCOUTING THE TORNADO
King was tabbed to finish seventh in the Conference Carolinas' Preseason Coaches' Poll after posting a 19-27 overall record a year ago and finishing eighth with a 9-18 mark in conference play.

Senior pitcher Grant Boyd, senior infielder J.P. Castaneda and junior outfielder Tony Valdez were named as players to watch this season, while sophomore Bubba Ruiz is the reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year after hitting .310 last season.

THE SERIES vs. KING
The weekend series will mark the first-ever meetings between the two programs.
