Trojans Open SAC Series with Loss to Lincoln Memorial

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team opened its final regular-season weekend with a 20-3 setback to visiting Lincoln Memorial, Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson fell to 14-31 overall and 8-14 in the conference, while Lincoln Memorial (28-16, 17-5 SAC) extended its win streak to nine games and has won eight consecutive conference outings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Sophomore designated hitter Carson Barrett was 3-for-5 on the night, with a pair of singles and his second career triple. Junior Tyler Miller added a single, a double and also reached on a walk and an error.

Sophomore John McMicking (1-7) suffered the loss after allowing nine runs on 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Railsplitters scored at least one run in each of the first six innings en route to building a 15-1 advantage.

AU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when freshman Joseph Strange reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Miller's one-out double to left-center.

LMU added five more runs in the top of the eighth, while the Trojans posted two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Freshman Dillon Carpenter drew a one-out walk and crossed the plate on Barrett's triple to the fence in right-center. Sophomore Troy Carhart followed by beating out an infield single to drive home Barrett with AU's third run.

UP NEXT
With AU looking to earn its second SAC Tournament appearance in three years, the Trojans and Railsplitters are slated to wrap up their three-game set with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
