Trojans Fall to Jaguars

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson baseball team fell behind early and was unable to recover, falling 10-2 to visiting Augusta State in non-conference action Wednesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Anderson (15-29) fell into a jam in the top of the first inning as Trojan pitcher Kaleb Davis, who was slated to start the game, was unable to throw, forcing AU's Brett Campbell into quick relief. Augusta State (11-22) scored five early runs by taking advantage of control problems and sandwiching run-scoring doubles around a one-out single that scored two runs after opening the game with three consecutive walks. The Trojans answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first when Blake May singled to left, scoring Derek Hipp who led off the inning with a double to right. Chance Thomas crossed the plate two batters later as designated hitter Erick Sanderson bounced out to the first baseman. But it was as close as AU would get, as five Augusta State hurlers combined to limit the Trojans' potent offense to six hits on the night. Hipp and Sanderson each finished with two hits on the night, including a double for each. Anderson closes out its regular-season slate this weekend when the Trojans play host Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas matchup. AU needs to win two of the three contests to claim a berth in next month's league tournament. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for Noon. Box Score Season Statistics
