Anderson Falls to 16th-ranked Bobcats

ANDERSON, S.C. -- A big eighth inning lifted No. 16 Georgia College and State University to an 11-3 win past Anderson in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. GCSU (24-10) struck first with a solo run in the top of the first inning, but Anderson (15-29) answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame, as senior Derek Hipp drew a lead-off walk, moved to third on Chance Thomas' single through the right side and scored when Blake May lifted a sacrifice fly to right field. The score remained even until the Bobcats added another run in the fourth and opened a 10-1 advantage with eight runs in the eighth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate, and added another run in the seventh. The Trojans notched two runs in the bottom of the ninth, as Bobby Roper scored from third on an error and shortstop Thomas Padro crossed the plate when Thomas bounced out to third. Junior Matt Kaplan worked five innings of three-hit baseball to pick up the win, while Ben Roberts suffered the loss for AU, giving up six runs in 5 1/3 innings. Anderson welcomes another Peach Belt-foe to Anderson Memorial Stadium Wednesday evening as Augusta State visits for a 6 p.m. start. Box Score Season Statistics
