Baseball Team Adds Five Players

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University head baseball coach Joe Miller announced the signing of five players of national letters of intent Wednesday. Bryce Duckett (P, Union, S.C.), Riley McDermott (P, Davie, Fla.), Tommy Padro (Inf., Hialeah, Fla.), Brett Scarberry (C, Sunrise, Fla.), and Kyle Williamson (P, Columbia, S.C.) all have signed with the Trojans. -- Duckett (6-1, 190) played at Union County High School for head coach Tommy Petty. In his final two high school seasons, he struck out 41 batters in 41 2/3 innings. "Bryce is going to compete early for big innings out of the bullpen," Miller said. "He is extremely tough and poised on the mound." -- McDermott (6-2, 165) played at Western High School for head coach Sonny Hansley. As a two-year starter, he recorded eight victories and struck out 50. "Riley has played at a high level and has the ability to pound the strike zone. He also has played for one of the top traveling teams in the country." -- Padro (5-10, 170) played at Everglades High School for head coach Pete Colabella. He was a four-year starter at shortstop at Everglades. "Tommy is a very smooth middle infielder and is solid in every aspect." -- Scarberry (5-11, 180) played at Western High School for head coach Sonny Hansley. He was a four-year starter at catcher, varsity captain his final two seasons and was named All-County by two publications. "Brett has been playing a high level of baseball for a long time," Miller said. "He has quick hands, and he should hit for plenty of player before his career is over at Anderson." -- Williamson (5-11, 170) played at Ben Lippen High School for head coach Brett Walsh. He was named the SCISA Player of the Year by The State in 2007 and was a four-time All-Region selection. "Kyle has a legitimate shot to be an impact two-way player at the college level," Miller said. "He has a short, compact swing with good pop, and he is an excellent defender as a corner infielder." The five new signees join the three players who have already signed with the Trojans -- Corey Frye (SS, Boiling Springs, S.C.), Jonathan Romano (OF, Tega Cay, S.C.), and Luke Sawyer (C, Baltimore, Md.).
