Carson Leads Anderson Past SWU

CENTRAL, S.C. -- Blair Carson was 4-for-5, scored five runs and drove in four runs to lead Anderson University to a 13-12 victory in 12 innings over Southern Wesleyan Tuesday night. Anderson took a 6-2 lead with four runs in the fifth. The big hits in the inning were a three-run homer by Carson and an RBI single by Walt Quattlebaum. But the Warriors answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-6 lead. Cody Hightower had a two-run double and Brandon Brown had a run-scoring single for Southern Wesleyan in the inning. Anderson scored four times in the ninth to tie the game at 11 and send it to extra innings. After Quattlebaum led off the inning with a home run, the Trojans got a single from Matt Hill and Carson was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Trent Still provided a run-scoring single for the second run. After Ed Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, pinch-hitter Jared Rikard provided a two-run single to tie the game. In the top of the 12th, a double by Carson, an error, a hit batter, and a balk provided the winning run for Anderson. Chris Pitts allowed one run in three innings to earn the victory in relief. Cory Welch pitched a perfect 12th for the save. The victory improves Anderson to 7-21.
