Aiken Rallies To Beat Anderson, 12-7

AIKEN, S.C. -- Chad Jacobsen and Chris Grandinetti both homered as #12 USC Aiken (16-4) bounced back from a loss Tuesday to defeat visiting Anderson University (5-19) 12-7 Thursday evening in a non-conference game at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Anderson opened with a pair of runs in the opening inning when Blair Carson ripped a two-run homer against USCA starter Jonathan Bolt. Junior Ken Raborn plated a run in the bottom of the frame with an RBI triple. After the Trojans scored a lone run in the second, the Pacers took the lead for good with four in the bottom of the inning. Jacobsen capped the inning with a two-run single. In the third, Grandinetti followed singles by Nick Aranus and Gary Owens with a three-run home run to give the hosts an 8-3 advantage. Anderson plated an unearned run in both the fourth and fifth innings before getting another Carson home run, this one a solo shot, in the sixth to close the gap to 8-6. Cody McMorris singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth for USC Aiken, and Jacobsen followed one batter later with a two-run shot, his Peach Belt-leading 10th home run of the season. Grandinetti and McMorris each drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh to close out the USCA scoring. Senior southpaw Mark Yarbrough (1-0) earned the win in relief for USC Aiken, allowing five hits and two unearned runs in three innings. McMorris went 3-for-3 in the leadoff spot with a pair of RBI and three runs scored. Grandinetti went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, and Jacobsen added a 2-for-5 night with four runs driven in. Raborn, Aranus, and Owens each added two hits as the Pacers collected 15 hits in the game.
