Trojans Rally To Keep Winning Streak Alive

WINGATE, N.C. -- John Mac White doubled home Tony Graham with what proved to be the winning run in the top of the ninth inning to lead Anderson University to a 14-12 victory over Wingate in a non-conference game Thursday night. Anderson, 25-26 overall, has won five straight. With the game tied at 12, Tony Graham led off the ninth with a single, stole second, and scored on White's double. White advanced to third on an infield single and scored on a squeeze bunt by Josh Grubbs. Anderson scored seven runs in the first two innings. After loading the bases in the first, Jessie Whiteside hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the first of three runs in the inning. A wild pitch and a single by Kyle Lewis made it 3-0 in favor of Anderson. After Wingate answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, Anderson scored four times in the top of the second to take a 7-3 lead. The big hits in the inning were an RBI single by Lewis, a two-run double by White, and an RBI double by Jonathan Pitts. After Wingate tied the game at 11 with a two-run seventh, the two teams traded single runs in the eighth. Brandon Sheriff was the winner for Anderson. He struck out two and did not allow any hits in the final 1 1/3 innings. Anderson was led by White, who was 3-for-5 with 3 RBI; Graham, who was 3-for-6; and Lewis, who was 2-for-4.
