Anderson Scores In Bottom Of The Ninth To Beat ASU

ANDERSON, S.C. -- A lined shot by Kyle Lewis in the bottom of the ninth that was misplayed scored Tony Graham to give Anderson University a 6-5 victory over Augusta State Tuesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. With the scored knotted at 5, Tony Graham led off the inning with a walk. Graham stole second on the first pitch to Lewis. Lewis then hit a two hopper off the glove of Augusta State's first baseman Dustin Taylor into right field, which allowed Graham to score from second. In the eighth inning, the Jaguars scored one run on two hits to tie the game but failed to take the lead when the go-ahead run was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a passed ball. The Jaguars scored three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Bennett's Mayfield's two-run single highlighted the inning. But the Trojans answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run triple by Blair Carson, and then in the fourth with three more runs to make it 5-3. The big hit in the Anderson fourth was a two-run single by Lewis. Augusta State added an unearned run in the fifth to trail 5-4. B.J. Scarborough earned the win for the Trojans in 1 1/3 innings and recorded two strikeouts. Tyler Godwin was saddled with the loss for the Jaguars. The Trojans were led offensively by Lewis, who was 2-for-4 and two RBI, and by Blair Carson, who was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two extra base hits. Tony Baker led the Jaguars by going 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Jaguars out-hit the Trojans, 11-8. Anderson (24-26) has won four straight, three straight by one run.
