Women’s Golf Team and Men’s Soccer Team Named to the AFCU Gold Standard

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's golf team and the men's soccer team have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of October.

The men's soccer team posted a 7-1-2 record during the month, with the lone loss coming against the No. 20th team in the nation (Queens). The Trojans ran off six straight victories during their stellar play.

After knocking off league-leading and regionally fourth-ranked ranked Lenoir-Rhyne to close out regular-season play, the Black and Gold earned a No. 4 seed in the SAC Championship and knocked off the No. 5 and No. 1 seeds to advance to the SAC Tournament Finals before falling to No. 3 Tusculum in a 2-1 battle.

The Trojans finished as runners-up in the SAC Tournament and earned the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament, marking AU's fourth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore Gal Elyashiv earned SAC AstroTurf Defensive Player of the Week during October, while senior Cameron Emerson captured SAC AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week Honors. Elyashiv, Lars Kaula, Ryan Tyrer, Lucas Mostajo and Jhon Vaca each earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors, while Colin Burris, Harry Ward and Birkir Petursson were all named to the All-SAC Tournament Team.

The women's golf team won three of its four tournaments during the fall, including the Illinois-Springfield Island Getaway in late October, while earning a No. 16 national ranking by Golfstat. The No. 16 ranking marked the first appearance in Golfstat's Top-25 in school history and comes in the midst of a tremendously successful fall campaign for the Black and Gold.

Program records were in jeopardy throughout the Trojans' entire fall slate, with the Black and Gold eclipsing school records in three of the four tournaments. The Trojans posted a school record on two occasions last year, with a 295 as the 18-hole record. The Trojans eclipsed that mark with a second-round 293 at this year's AU Invitational, then bettered their own school record with a final-round 291 a month later at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

In mid-October, the Trojans posted a new school-record 287 in the mountains of North Georgia, while marking a LeeAnn Noble Memorial tournament-record for 18 holes, as well as a tourney record 584 for the 36-hole event.

Each month, one male and one female student-athlete or teams are honored as the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard Performers of the Month for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
